This vest looks and feels great, perfect for those who want to look the part, but aren’t going for the fanciest look. I found that if you tend to wear medium shirts, then the medium Orthello will likely work for you.
The only problem I had initially with this vest was the fastening straps. There was a lot of strap left over once I slipped in the appropriate notch in the buckle. It looked a bit tacky to me, but I was able to solve the problem by slipping the leftover strap back through the buckle, doing this about two times for each strap so that none of them were hanging freely. It looks good and doing this twice over keeps the strap in tightly enough that there’s no need to try to notch the additional passes made through the buckle.

I am very pleased with this vest, which is generally quite similar to the leather jerkins worn on Henry VIII’s great ship, the Mary Rose, which sank in 1545. None of the pieces recovered from the wreck had buckles, but that does not mean they were never used in period. A good look and good value for the money. I generally wear a medium shirt but took a chance and ordered a large vest. I like the slightly looser fit.

I got this vest in quick time! Unfortunately they didn’t have brown in stock in my size but the black looks sharp! Beware that they definitely run a nearly a whole size bigger than the measurements listed. I thought I would be a Large but gambled with the Medium – the chest, waist, and length all fit perfectly.

This vest is a great buy- sturdy, light, and it looks good. The only flaw I found- and it was a very minor one- was that the buckets and straps are attached at the edge, leaving a gap in the front even when fully cinched to the last hole, and as mentioned in another review there was a lot of leftover strap. My solution for both was to just tuck the excess strap back through behind the buckle so it hung down and covered the gap. As for sizing, one of the biggest problems with commercially-made armour, clothing, etc. is that it is rarely made for broad-chested folks. I have a 54″ chest and this vest in XXL fits me just fine, not too tight at all.

This is a beautiful vest. I really love it. The front belt straps the close is seem a little thin but they have held up well so far.

Looks great – fit is a little smaller through the waist than the XX-Large dimensions – I cannot close it all the way but it is still wearable open in the front and looks great.
