The Miniature Bronze Renaissance Rapier, by Marto, is a reproduction of a typical 16th century rapier, a sword focused on thrusting, rather than cutting, which eventually supplanted the traditional arming sword altogether. While elaborate looking, very little on this sword serves no purpose. The pommel is simple and adds counter-weight to a long, thin blade, while the guard, an elaborate knot of metal quillions, serves the purpose of not only decorating the blade, but acting as a protective covering for the hand.
