Supposedly, the Koi is brave and fearless, facing waterfalls, hardship, and even death with a courage that compares to that of the legendary samurai. And for that reason, we pay homage to both the warrior and Koi fish with this stunning Koi Katana. The katana is almost universally known as the blade of the samurai, and its prowess has been respected and feared for generations. This katana does not deviate in the slightest from this blade, possessing a blade that is forged from T10 high carbon steel using a monosteel construction process. This means that the blade of the sword is not folded during the forging process. However, it has been differentially hardened using traditional clay methods. Together, these features ensure that as pretty as this sword may be, it is also made for cutting. The swords guard, also known as a tsuba, is crafted from blackened iron and features the blade’s namesake in the form of a finely rendered Koi fish that features true front and back detailing. The grip, also known as the tsuka, is wrapped first in fine same (or ray skin) and then wrapped in premium white Japanese cotton (which is known as the tsuka-ito) to provide a secure and solid grip. The rest of the swords fittings are all beautifully antiqued, which serves to enhance the overall look of this blade greatly. Included with the katana are a carrying bag, a sword maintenance kit, and a beautifully black lacquered sheath, which is also known as a saya. The saya is further decorated by a white and black striped wrap, which is called the sageo. A katana typically forms one half of the daisho (which means big little), which consists of a long sword and a short sword. In this case, the Koi Katana corresponds perfectly with its smaller relative, the Koi Wakizashi (SH2466). This Koi Katana is a great way to possess the legendary sword of the samurai, as it is not only a blade that is made for cutting and use, but it also features a stunning level of detail, which means that so long as you take care of the sword, it will continue to awe all those who see it.
