Bring the warrior spirit of the ancients into your battle by wielding the Kawanakajima Katana against your foes on the battlefield. It is worthy of many warriors and honors its historical inspiration.
Historical Info
This samurai sword takes its name from the famous Battles of Kawanakajima. The battles were between rivals Takeda Shingen, the Tiger of Kai, and Uesugi Kenshin, the Dragon of Echigo. Neither of these daimyos succeeded in the battles. However, their inconclusive fights would become the stuff of legend and are cherished tales in Japanese culture. Similarly to King Arthur in the West, these battles and figures are among the epitome of Japanese chivalry and romance.
Sword Construction
This functional katana features a blade of folded T10 and 9260 high carbon steel. This mix of steels gives a visible design in the temper-line, or hamon, of the blade. The blade has a curved shape, typical of Japanese swords. A fuller runs down the spine, lightening the blade. Also, the blade is tempered to 60 HRC on the edge and 40 HRC on the spine.
The sword continues with a brass blade collar before a highly detailed crossguard, or tsuba. On one side, it depicts two warriors fighting. The warrior on the bottom is Uesugi, while the warrior on top is Takeda. The other side of the tsuba depicts a mighty dragon.
Next, the sword has a traditionally wrapped grip. Black silk wraps around cream-colored real ray skin, or same. Finally, this sword comes with a black scabbard. It has a textured finish. There is a black wrapping at the top of the scabbard.
Use this sword in combat or include it in any quality sword collection. This collectors piece will surely steal some attention with its striking design. It makes a perfect centerpiece in any display. Of course, when you are not taking it into battle, put it on a display stand or keep it sharp with some sword maintenance supplies.
