Not too much, not too little, the perfect Renaissance Fair attire!
While I prefer historical accuracy, I miss the comfort and flexibility of LARP-oriented armor. While looking around the armor packages section on here, one armor set that I usually glossed over happened to catch my attention: this one, of course. I wanted a suit that would perfect both minimalism and maximizing a more historical theme (as in not straying too far into fantasy). The color palette was just what I was going for, but the spaces in between the gambeson and plate armor allow for all kinds of possibilities to make it more personal! I myself have two Friedhelm suede shoulder bags and a Rickar suede bandolier in the back, doubling as a belt to keep the Gustav breastplate close to my body. More on the suit itself, it’s perfect for what it is! I left a more in-depth review on the breastplate since nobody’s left one yet, and to share my own personal advice on it. The choice to substitute the Gustav Spaulders for the Large Markward Spaulders was a choice well made, as it doesn’t disrupt the thematic texturing at all. I’ve worn a lot of the Gustav and Markward armor pieces before, so most of this isn’t new to me. The rondels on both the arm and leg guards rotate freely (and make for a fun fidget toy to be honest), and not to mention both are very flexible after you wear them for a bit! They may lock up here and there at first, but give it some breaking in and you’ll be all set. I’m 6’1 and 145 pounds and I guarantee this armor set was made with EVERYBODY in mind. The gambeson (I ordered a large one as the medium’s sleeves were just barely too short- a shame) has buckles that can accommodate for any type that fits the size, and it’s belts are long enough that they can also be modified for smaller frames like myself. I also ordered the Gustav Greaves for some variety if I want to be more armored, and they work just as expected for a single sheet of metal: simple, quick, and easy. The Hammond Leg Wraps are excellent at what they do, and I advise to also get the corresponding arm wraps in case you want some cheap and comfortable manchette “gloves.” Because I’ll be moving around a lot at this year’s Ren fair, I won’t be wearing the full arm guards, and will also buy the Small Markward Spaulders to balance out the shape and feel. Overall, this has to be my favorite armor set on here. Mytholon makes amazing products for LARP, Ren Fairs, theatre, reenactments, and anything else you could think of. If you want a good suit of armor for a mercenary, sell-sword, foot soldier, or other related archetypes, GET THIS ONE! You’ll love it! I sure do!
