The opposing army marches ever closer to kingdom. You are ready to protect it from the evil invaders as you wear the Great French Bascinet Helmet. Made from 14 gauge steel, this battle-ready helmet comes in two sizes. It has a traditional bascinet helmet shape. It features a pointed face plate. The face plate has ventilation holes on the sides in a diamond pattern. Additional slots angle outwards to form the eye holes. In addition, the wearer can lift the face plate as it attaches to the main section with brass-colored pins.
The face plate overlaps another piece that helps to cover part of the neck. Finally, the helmet comes lined and secures on the head with a chin strap. Stitching secures the liner inside with the help of multiple small holes along the back-bottom edge of the helmet. The Great French Bascinet Helmet makes a fantastic addition to a variety of medieval roles.
Please note that steel thickness may vary slightly due to the handcrafted methods used in the manufacture of this item.
Be sure to wear this helmet with an arming cap for enhanced comfort and safety. And remember to check out our helmet stands for the best way to both store and show off your helmet with pride!

We fence traditional European style, HEMA, and kendo. Each uses some form of head protection based on the sport’s requirements. Today we fought for the first time with this bascient. This is far superior to either our HEMA masks or kendo men (helmet). The bascinet’s mass and construction easily absorbs blows from various HEMA weapons, our shinais, and LARP weapons. I felt far safer in this helmet than my kendo men and it was far more comfortable than our HEMA masks. It also stands out from your face and lower jaw compared to a HEMA mask which is important for protecting your lower jaw (like a football helmet). The extra throat protection is a nice addition too (that proved useful today when I took a thrust to the neck (tsuki in kendo). We wear gorgets too, but every little bit counts. The pandemic has seen our family (including two college aged sons) passing the time by combining our various sword-fighting hobbies into a backyard mashup. I wish all fencing disciplines use helmets like this one as all would be far safer! My only quibble is the button to keep the visor open. It’s not quite up to the job on my helm, so I leave it pinned down.
