With the enemy approaching, you raise your weapon and take solace in the Ashen Epic Shieldmaiden Helmet that protects your head. Made from 9-10-ounce leather, this Viking helmet comes in two sizes. It pulls on over the head and secures with a chin strap.
The front of the black helmet covers the upper half of the face. It features a fixed visor panel. The visor has two angled slots for the eyes. Around the slots are embossed, bronze knotwork patterns. The knotwork covers the fixed visor.
At the top of the visor, there are cutouts showcasing the knotwork. Also, the top edge of the panel forms points at the ends and in the center. This pointed, cutout knotwork design occurs on another panel on the forehead.
In addition, at the top of the Valkyrie helmet, there is a crest of synthetic dreadlocks with beads. The crest runs down the back of the helmet. A pair of leather straps holds it in place. The knotwork pattern adorns them as well. Rivets secures the helmet together. Wear the Ashen Epic Shieldmaiden Helmet to your next Viking-themed LARP battle, cosplay convention, or in a stage production. It truly suits a fierce warrior maiden.
Shieldmaidens and Valkyries
The mythical idea of the shieldmaiden, or female warrior, may have given rise to the idea of the Valkyrie, often known as a beautiful warrior woman who brings the souls of fallen warriors into Valhalla. They feature in various places in the Eddas and sagas.
One of the most famous Valkyries was Brunhild, renamed as such in Wagners Ring Cycle opera. We have a more in-depth look at them in our Valkyrie mythology article. Historical evidence for the existence of shieldmaidens is minimal.
