Inspired by the authentic blackthorn Irish shillelaghs made of prized blackthorn wood, the Irish Blackthorn Walking Staff uses high impact polypropylene to create a high quality walking stick that will not warp, crack, or splinter. The shillelagh is the traditional weapon of rural Ireland, and in expert hands, it was so fearsome that they were outlawed. The weapon eventually evolved into a sturdy and functional walking stick, and now Cold Steel has replicated the look of the traditional blackthorn here in easy to maintain, injection molded polypropylene. This walking stick artfully embraces the appearance of natural blackthorn wood with impressive attention to detail and beauty.

I had one of these for several years until I lost it. I am reordering it because of the unique qualities of function, form and style – along with it being a kick butt defensive tool. The only drawback was that the head chips if dropped on a hard surface. Makes it more distinctive but brings a frown.

Bought this as a Fathers Day present for a disabled vet who hated his cane. He loves this walking stick. First, it looks like a real wood historical walking stick and not like a cane at all. Second, it is incredible lightweight and easy to carry anywhere. And third, it is an incredibly durable, washable, plastic that can go through puddles and in mud and wet grass and gross oops what was that? And you can just wash, hose, scrub it off. And it hasn’t warped or gotten too hot to hold being left in the car in the Texas heat. Did I say he loves it?
