Late Roman Sword

Similar in design to the gladius, the spatha was a type of straight sword favored by Roman heavy infantry units. This Late Roman Sword is an ornate sword of spatha design, featuring long, straight edges that culminate into a vicious, angular point. This impressive sword is patterned after a classic 4th century Roman spatha that would have been used heavily by front-line troops and heavy infantry units, who would utilize its longer blade for lethal attacks from farther away. This Roman sword features a long, unsharpened blade with a double fuller that runs down the center of the blade, enhancing its strength while lowering its weight. The blade itself is made from carbon steel. The guard features a half-circle design, while the pommel is a teardrop shaped weight inlaid with brass accents. The hilt as a whole is constructed of polished bone, giving it an ornate look similar to faux ivory. The overall length of the sword is 37 inches, making it distinctively longer than a gladius. Included with the sword is a matched wood scabbard wrapped with dark gray leather and accented with a brass throat and chape.
