The 1851 pattern Basket-hilt Broadsword was standard officer issue in the Highland regiments from Victorian to modern times. It has an etched 32 inch blade with the George V cipher. The red basket liner and pommel tuft help to make this a most attractive piece. It was used at the beginning of the Civil War until both sides could manufacture their own updated and more functional swords that would be more effective and efficient in battle.
